Michael Ahearn (Treasurer)

Michael Ahearn recently retired as CFO and  VP of Finance and Administration at Gordon College, a post he held from 2009 to 2018. Prior to his position with Gordon College, Mike held senior finance offices with the Massachusetts Port Authority and the Analysis Group. Mike holds an MS in Finance from University of Rochester, an MBA from the Tuck School at Dartmouth, and a BA from Colgate University.

Mike, his wife, Joy, and their son are longtime residents of Arlington and have been actively involved with Park Street Church for more than twenty years.

Sam Aureli

Sam Aureli has worked in the design and construction industries for more than two decades, specializing in life sciences, healthcare and higher education facilities. Currently, he is the Associate Director of Real Estate at MIT. Sam earned his BS in Architectural Technology at New York Institute of Technology after eight long years of evening classes. He began his career working in the construction trades after emigrating from Italy in 1990.


Sam currently serves as a board member and deacon at Freedom Hill Community Church in Malden, and also serves as the Worship Team leader. He and his wife, Bridget, live in the north shore with their two college-age boys.

Annmarie Boulay

Annmarie Boulay is the Director of Connecting and Women's Ministries at Wintonbury Church in Bloomfield, Connecticut. She has also co-founded The Underground, a ministry she has great passion for, which brings together churches in Connecticut to fight against the injustices of human trafficking in the region.  A graduate of St. John's Business School, she worked in the marketplace for over 20 years and founded Pinnacle Consulting which specializes in patient advocacy and third party insurance.  

In 2000, while juggling a successful business and family life, she began to serve in women's ministry at her local church. Five years later, she responded to God’s call and joined the staff at Wintonbury Church where she is a recognized leader in many ministries.

Jim Dalton

Jim Dalton has worked in the enterprise software and consulting industry for over 20 years and is currently a Director of Global Accounts at Infor, a New York-based enterprise software company that has been called “The World’s Largest Start-up”. His expertise is in building market share and gaining mindshare from scratch. This includes working with some of the most successful growth companies in history: PTC, Invention Machine Corporation (named a “Cool Company” by Fortune magazine in 2008), GEN3 Partners and MCI. He started his own consulting firm in 2006 to support an elite group of entrepreneurs working to commercialize technologies developed at MIT and incubators in Israel. Sample clients include Liquid Piston ( and SemiNex Corporation ( He also served as Associate Producer on a local Director’s first feature film and is an Angel Investor with a local medical device company.

Jim received a B.B.A. degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. When he is not at work, he spends his time cultivating his love of art, from creating, to building a world-class, eclectic art collection. Jim lives on the North Shore of Boston with his three daughters.

Donna L. Goolkasian

Donna has been a volunteer for Amirah since 2016. Her volunteer activities have encompassed Direct Care, budget mentoring, and fund raising by selling her handmade greeting cards. 


Donna has been in the pharmaceutical industry for most of her career in the area of medical communications. She is passionate about creating educational and information materials for healthcare professionals and encouraging her colleagues to grow both professionally and personally! 


She lives in Belmont and has had the pleasure of traveling to countries in Asia, Europe, and Africa!

Karyn Hendrickson

Karyn Hendrickson, wife, mother and grandmother, had the privilege of being a stay-at-home mom while raising her four children alongside her husband, Ray. Karyn serves as a coordinator in the Financial Peace University Ministry, has been certified as a Ramsey Solutions Master Financial Coach, and is currently in her 5thyear of service on the Executive Board of her local church. Like others, Karyn heard of sex trafficking, but did not understand the magnitude of what was going on until she attended an event about Amirah, Inc. She was deeply moved by what she heard and could not ignore the fact that sex trafficking was not only happening in the world, but it was happening right here in our communities.  Karyn is excited to serve and be a part of Amirah’s board of directors because Amirah’s mission closely matches the causes she cares about deeply. She believes the individualized whole-person care approach gives the best opportunity for each woman to break free from human trafficking.


Karyn lives on the North Shore of Boston along with her husband, and enjoys spending time with her grown children, five grandchildren, as well as photography, sewing and reading to learn.

Greg Hood

Greg Hood is a Physician Assistant who practices family medicine at Lynn Community Health Center, a non-profit, multicultural, community health center located in downtown Lynn. He has a strong affinity for the Latin American culture and over 50% of the patients at LCHC are better served in languages other than English. For over 7 years he has worked with the Suboxone Program and enjoys working with individuals who have struggled with addictions. He also has a passion for teaching and is an Advanced Practice Clinical Preceptor at Boston College as well as an Adjunct Clinical Instructor for the PA program at Northeastern University. It is his hope that he can bring his clinical experiences as well as his desire to help others in all aspects of life to Amirah.


He has a Masters degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Northeastern University and Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from Gordon College.  He and his wife have 2 young daughters and a son, and have laid their roots on the North Shore of Boston.  He is honored to be working on the board of Amirah, and it is his hope to make an impact in the lives Amirah touches.

Jodi Hyer (Vice Chair)

Dr. Jodi Hyer has been a passionate supporter of Amirah since 2011. Prior to joining the board in May 2015, she served in a variety of roles including event planning, grant writing, social media, and serving survivors in the safe home. She strongly believes that commercial exploitation is a community issue and that each one of us can be part of the solution through dedicating our time, talents, or resources, and raising awareness among those in our own spheres of influence. Jodi holds a B.A. in psychology and Ph.D. in molecular biology and previously held positions as a cancer researcher, high school science teacher, and freelance science writer. She is currently the Communications Coordinator for WomenCraft Social Enterprise, a community-driven social enterprise that employs more than 300 rural East African women artisans to advance themselves, raise stronger families, and stimulate their local economies.


When she’s not spending time with her husband and two sons, Jodi enjoys running, reading, cheering for the Red Sox, and learning how to blend in as a Southerner in New England.

Nancy Mering

Nancy worked in several administrative positions for over 30 years at Gordon College, including Director of Admissions and Director of Alumni and Parent Relations.  Now retired, Nancy's focus has shifted to ways to bring help and hope to women and girls in need of both.  To that end, in Fall 2011 she founded Gathering for Hope North Shore, a monthly gathering of women eager to learn about needs and opportunities to help other women, and joined Amirah's Board of Directors in Fall 2012.  Nancy and her husband, David, also created a small nonprofit with friends that partners with schools in Kenya, primarily in the slums of Nairobi. 


Nancy and David are the parents of two grown children and grandparents of nine.

Greg Smith (Chair)

Greg Smith is Executive Vice President of Sales at Certica Solutions in Wakefield, a provider of Software solutions for the Education Industry. Prior to this, Greg spent 14 years at Kronos, a $1 billion software company where he held various executive roles building new business units and divisions.  The previous 16 years he held general management roles in the semiconductor distribution business.  In addition to his professional responsibilities, he has been active in nonprofit leadership roles.  For 5 years, including two as Chairman, he has been on the board at Lazarus House, an $8 million nonprofit in Lawrence.  Besides his work with Amirah he is also on the Board of Directors/Elder board at First Presbyterian Church in Ipswich, MA.
He has a Master’s degree in NonProfit Management with a concentration in Leadership from Northeastern University and a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration from California State University, Long Beach.  He's especially proud to be part of the Amirah board because he believes in the mission of righting wrongs inflicted on the helpless.  Greg and his wife, Nancy, have 4 grown children and live in Beverly, MA.

Laurie Truschel (Secretary)

Laurie Truschel is the retired Director of Young Alumni and Student Engagement at Gordon College, and holds a Masters in Higher Education.  Prior to working in Alumni Relations, she served as the Director of Student Ministries at Gordon, and as a campus minister and conference director with the CCO (Coalition for Christian Outreach), a campus ministry headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA. 
Laurie and her husband John live in Beverly, MA, and have three adult children.
