Community Life & Volunteer Coordinator, MA


Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and working directly with the program staff in our North Shore safe home, the Community Life & Volunteer Coordinator will help to cultivate the home community environment for the program participants of Amirah, engaging them in community activities and working with their physical, social, and spiritual trauma recovery, specifically working with them one-on-one for spiritual trauma recovery.

  • Meet individually with program participants for spiritual trauma recovery (spiritual mentoring or spiritual direction), working to connect them with community partners in the area for personal growth.

  • Lead weekly group house meeting called Grace Circle with program participants, focusing in on the Amirah values each month and facilitating time of reflection with the program participants.

  • Continue system for celebrating various milestones met by each program participant (sobriety dates, phase graduations, birthdays, etc.) and coordinate all such efforts for program participants.

  • Be an active part of the life of the women as they learn how to function and live in community together in this home.

  • Follow all reporting protocol for group meetings as well as individual meetings.

  • Effectively communicate the goals and efforts met by each program participant in these areas to the program staff.

  • Coordinate with Home Manager and volunteers for community dinners, ensuring that these happen with program participants on assigned community dinner evenings. 

  • Tend to the needs of the program participants should you be the sole program staff member in the home.

  • Be on call in a rotation.

  • Attend Program Staff Meeting.

  • Manage all direct care volunteer coordination in the North Shore safe home, ensuring that as many shifts are filled as possible.

  • Contribute to Amirah’s educational and advocacy efforts as needed in your area of expertise (this could include blog writing, public speaking events, social media videos, etc.).



  • Follower of Christ, committed to His church and message of the transformative love of Jesus that was displayed on the cross

  • Strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ as well as knowledge on the Scriptures 

  • Understanding of other worldviews should a program participant express belief in another religious faith

  • Experience in pastoral work or compassion services preferred

  • Lived-experience welcomed

  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills

  • Ability to problem solve, multi-task and work in a high intensity environment

  • Ability to work in an independent environment as part of a team-unit

  • High level of collaboration 

  • Ability to work through resistance and strong level of perseverance and patience

  • Compassionate for others

  • Strong computer and software skills, ability to learn new software systems

  • Driver’s license and vehicle

  • Non-profit and/or office environment experience preferred



This position is for 30 hours a week total.


25 hours a week are to be worked in the following schedule (we are open if there needs to be changes to this, but for the most part, we are asking for these hours):

  • Sundays from 4-9pm

  • Tuesdays from 12-5pm

  • Wednesdays from 4-9pm

  • Thursdays from 4-9pm


There are five extra hours for you to add into your schedule as you see fit to work on volunteer coordination. When you work these hours is up to you. These five hours of work can be remote work.


Additionally, we ask that this position serve in the on-call rotation for one weekend a month, filling in any vacant shift openings and answering any emergency calls (this is scheduled well in advance). 



Extensive training is provided for the following (not limited to these):

  • All in-home operations, protocols, and procedures 

  • How to provide trauma-informed care

  • Common mental health disorders as well as substance abuse recovery

  • Proper reporting procedures

  • How to work an on-call shift

  • Leading Grace Circle

  • One-on-one spiritual trauma recovery


Amirah provides the following benefits for this position:

  • Every four months a full-week of vacation taken within that four month period (three weeks total given each year). Amirah operates on a work-rest rhythm for all staff members.

  • Every quarter, one personal spiritual retreat day is given. This is one day given to take as seen fit to connect with God, to rest, and to restore for this work.

  • Eligible for health insurance package.

  • Accumulated sick-time is given up to forty (40) hours a year.

  • Bi-monthly spiritual supervision support outside of Amirah.

  • Paid holidays on New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day
